Leaf dyeing
Angharad Rixon
This mini workshop examines techniques for transferring pigments directly onto fabric from leaves and flowers to preserve their imprints.

Programme
The morning is dedicated to selecting appropriate leaves and flowers and arranging them into motifs which can become a repeat by means of fold dyeing in a natural dye-bath with a mineral mordant.
In the afternoon the students try the Northern American Indian method of releasing the pigment by pounding the leaves and learn different techniques for fixing the dye.
The first results are examined on the second day along with techniques to make the colors bloom or to sadden them and how to treat the textiles to best preserve the imprints obtained.
